Addie Sue Thiele

Addie Sue (Crisp) Thiele was born on December 22, 1931, in Waskom, Texas to the Reverend William Nelson Crisp and Gladys (Guy) Crisp. She passed away on April 25, 2025, in Mexia, Texas. Her siblings were William Eugene Crisp, Robert Vaughn Crisp, and Mary Lucille (Crisp) Dunkin.

Sue graduated from Pine Prairie High School in Louisiana. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Miranda City, Texas. She married Roger Martin Thiele when she was 17 and had three children: Jackie Cunningham of Athens, Karen Alexander, and Lisa Lauderdale, both of Mexia, Texas.

When Lisa started back to kindergarten, she went back to work. She first worked at T & C Grocery Store, the First Mexia Bank and Custom Insurance. She loved working at the motor bank and talking to customers as they drove through and took pride in always balancing her teller drawer. When Lisa graduated from college, she retired. She advised, “Retire as soon as you can and travel as much as you can.”

Sue’s love for her church, First Baptist Mexia, was evident in her work there which began in 1966 when the family moved to Mexia. She sang in the choir, performed in the pageants, attended Sunday School, took food to the sick and bereaved. She also volunteered for hospice.

Sue loved sports: played basketball in high school, watched her grandchildren play, cheered on her beloved Mexia Blackcats, and watched the Dallas Cowboys.

Mrs. Thiele was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Cunningham and husband, Ed of Athens, Karen Alexander and husband, David of Mexia, and Lisa Lauderdale and husband Kelly of Mexia; grandchildren, Clint Williford (Amber) of Mexia, Leigh Ann Sneeringer (Chris) of Roanoke, Lauren Cunningham (Colby Simpson) of Lockhart, Blair Mortimer (Rocky) of Mexia, Tareyn Onderko (Luke) of Casper, Wyoming, Riley McDaniel (Kevin) of Casper, Wyoming, Justin Alexander (Alyssa) of Mexia, Sunnie Miller of Riesel, and Holly Herron (Fiancé Ben Dockery) of Donie; thirteen great grandchildren.

Services are planned for Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at the Tehuacana Cemetery in Tehuacana, Texas with Reverend Marcus Sheffield officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia, Texas from 1-2 p.m.
