Alberto Galaviz, known to most as “Poncho”, passed away July 25, 2021 in Waco, Texas at the age of 79. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021 in the Coolidge Cemetery with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating.
Poncho was born in San Antonio, Texas but lived most of his life in Mexia. He loved interacting with people and animals. He worked for many years for Johnny & Katie Brady at the Lone Star Beer Warehouse and Dr. Ric and Julia Bennett at the Bennett Veterinarian Clinic. In Poncho’s eyes, he was a member of the Brady and Bennett families, and the feeling was mutual; they, along with many others in the community loved him. These families were thankful and very appreciative of the way he was accepted and treated by those in the community
Poncho also worked at Spunkey’s Café and did lawn work for numerous people in the Mexia Area. He never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a big smile and friendly hello.
Both Johnny Brady and Dr. Ric Bennett preceded him in death. He is remembered by Katie, Harlon and Bryan Brady; Julia Bennett, Rae Ann Egan-Wyer, and husband, Steve, and Rick Bennett and wife, Trudy and family; and many other friends.
