Annie V. Sheffield Britt

Annie Venia Fore Sheffield Britt, 95 of Mexia, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, peacefully in her sleep at home. Visitation will be held at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home on Sunday, April 9, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mexia on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Pt. Enterprise Cemetery following the services.

 

Annie V. was born on March 27, 1928, in Mexia, Texas to James Robert and Oree Stephens Fore. She attended Mexia schools - graduating in the class of 1945. In 1949, she married Horace "Jack" Sheffield, Jr. They moved to Forest Glade where Jack was the Principal of Forest Glade School. During that time, she worked raising their children and helping Jack in any way she could. After the kids were in school, she had various administrative roles at WM White Law Offices, Humble Oil Company, Mexia ISD, Bi-Stone Savings and Loans, and Edward D. Jones.

 

After Jack passed away in 1990, she later met and married, Grandon Britt in July, 1998. They spent many years traveling and going to blue grass festivals. They had raised their children, so these years were spent enjoying each other.

 

Annie V. was active in the Pt. Enterprise Goodwill Club and Quilters and a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and loved to make quilts. She was a strong Christian and raised her children to be as well.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Oree Fore; her first husband, Jack Sheffield; her brother and sister-in-law, Burnie and Harvey Fore; and brother-in-law Billie Beene.

 

She is survived by her husband, Grandon Britt; her children Carol Ann and husband James Dawley, Marcus and wife Sheryl Sheffield, Kent and wife Connie Sheffield, Regina and husband John Lindsey, and Dennis and wife Terri Britt.  Grandchildren - Andrea and husband Jeff Roussel; Rachel and husband, Chris Ehlers; Todd and wife Leslie Dawley; Colby Sheffield and fiancé Melinda Richardson; Jordan Sheffield; Mason Sheffield; and Megan Sheffield; Michael Lindsey; Michelle and husband Ken Whitehead; Mandy and husband Adam Barker; Brandon and wife Michele Britt; and Byron and wife Becca Britt; Cody and wife Jessie St. John; and Shelby and husband Tyler Covington; as well as 23 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Beth Beene of Teague.

 

Pallbearers will be Jeff Roussel, Chris Ehlers, Todd Dawley, Colby Sheffield, Jordan Sheffield, Mason Sheffield, and Reid Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Lindsay, Brandon Britt, and Byron Britt.

 

Memorials in Annie V.'s memory may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Mexia or a church of your choice or the Mexia ISD Academic Scholarship fund.
