Barbara Ellen Shamblin

Barbara Ellen Shamblin, 72, of Mexia, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 24, 1953, in Mexia, to James L. and Marie Person, she remained a proud lifelong resident of her hometown.

Barbara devoted her life to caring for others, both personally and professionally. She served the Mexia community as a dedicated registered nurse, working for Dr. Edgar and Dr. Williford, and later as Director of Education and Training at the Mexia State School. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Northwood University and her Master's degree in Educational Human Resources from Texas A&M University. Her compassion, leadership, and gentle spirit touched countless lives throughout her career.

Throughout her later years, Barbara was lovingly cared for by her devoted husband, James David Shamblin, whose steadfast love, patience, and care reflected the deep devotion that defined their marriage.

Barbara shared more than five decades of love and companionship with James David, her high school sweetheart, and the love of her life. Theirs was a true love story—one of finding each other again and again throughout the years and holding on through thick and thin. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, laughter, and devotion to one another. Their bond was one of strength, forgiveness, and lasting affection, a reflection of the deep love they shared and the family they created.

Barbara was known for her radiant positivity, giving heart, and joyful spirit. She cherished time with her special group of high school girlfriends, sharing decades of laughter, travel, and memories. She also enjoyed the occasional casino trip, where her laughter and good luck brightened every outing.

At home, Barbara was the heart of every celebration - hosting wonderful holiday dinners and showering family and friends with her thoughtful, selfless gifts. Her warmth and joy made everyone feel welcome and loved.

A devoted member of Point Enterprise Baptist Church, Barbara lived out her faith daily through kindness, generosity, and service to others. She loved her church family deeply and found strength and comfort in her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Her life was a beautiful example of grace, love, and steadfast faith.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, James David Shamblin; daughter Keri Bailey-Allen and husband Brandon Allen; son David Cory Shamblin and wife Jessica Shamblin; grandchildren Bradley Mitchell Bailey and wife Cheri, Benjamin Lucas Bailey, Taylor Ryanne Allen, Cole Riley Allen, Sadie Stanley and Roxie Shamblin; great-grandchildren Abigail Lynn Bailey and Wyatt James Bailey; brother James Stephen Person and wife Ruth Ann; loving sisters-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and her dearest lifelong friend, Liz Griffin.
