Betty Sue Hawkins

Betty Sue Hawkins, passed away on June 5, 2026 in Mexia, Texas at the age of 88. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2026 in the Mexia Cemetery with Reverend Shane Norcross officiating.

Betty was born on November 16, 1937 in Mexia, Texas to George Joshua and Dorothy Maydell (Looney) Flynt. She graduated from Mexia High School at the age of 16. On June 28, 1958, she married her lifelong partner, J. C. Hawkins III in Mexia; they were blessed with two daughters, Becky and Carla. Betty was a was a bookkeeper for the Production Credit Company for many years.

Betty was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She and her family had a close relationship and enjoyed spending time together whenever possible. Betty had no problem being a grandmother and took great pleasure in spoiling her grands and great grands as much as possible. She also loved her cats.

In her spare time, Betty liked to quilt and explore estate sales looking especially for antiques. She was also a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Mexia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Flynt; and her husband of 55 years, J.C. Hawkins III.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Becky Brady and husband, Harlon and Carla Wilkins and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Brittany Hoag and husband, Chris, Hilary Gray and husband, Ben, and John Colton Brady; great grandchildren, Hazel, Ellowyn, and Luke Gray, and Dallas, Peyton, and Tucker Hoag.
