Cleve Ferguson left his earthly life on March 25, 2026 to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There to greet him was his loving parents, Mr. & Mrs. A. E. (Lola McClaran) Ferguson and his seven brothers and sisters who preceded him in death; A. E. “Hick” Ferguson, Jr., R. A. “Buddy” Ferguson, Chelsia Taylor, Lola Mae Bates, James C. “Jimmy” Ferguson, Phil Ray Ferguson, and Pat Buyher. He was also preceded in death by the Mother of his children, Joyce Coe Ferguson; 3 of his children, Gary and Dennis Ferguson and Denise Winstead; grandchildren, Blake McIntire and Rachel Smith.
His early life was spent in Personville, TX, although it was a hard existence, he lived every minute of his life to the fullest. He was a graduate of Fair Oaks High School. He was a 33-year employee of the Texas Highway Department; he oversaw the removal of the Mexia traffic circle as well as other major projects. He was a 5-year employee of the City of Mexia. He touched the lives of many, most importantly children on the baseball field or in the woods coon hunting, he lived and loved every minute. Cleve and our mother provided for, not the things we always wanted but more importantly, the things we needed.
Cleve was a member of the Southwest High School Basketball Officials Association, PKC Coon Hunting Association (some of his dogs won the State Hunt and other major awards), and he was a member of that organizations’ Hall of Fame. He often said that whether in the woods or on the water, it was never wasted and provided great moments and memories, but it was the relationships provided that he cherished the most.
Cleve played as hard as he worked - dominoes, 42 moon, or poker - he made the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his 4 daughters-2 of 3 sets of twins; Dr. Sheer and Brenda Rahaman of Old Union, Linda Smith of Mexia, Paula and Carl Mathison of Mexia, and Pamela Ferguson of Mexia; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including George Massey, Skipper Dodson, and his son-in-law, Dr. Sheer Rahaman.
Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church with Brother Clifton Jones, Pastor of Prairie Grove Baptist Church officiating.
