Obituary

On January 30, 2026, Charlotte Darlene Morton departed her temporary dwelling place for her eternal home, which she had longed for so many years.

Darlene was born April 8, 1938 in Old Union to Charlie and Nellie Castlow Sanders. She remained in Limestone County for most of her life. She married Finis Lee (Tubby) Morton on December 10, 1955. They were blessed with two sons, Mike and Spike, whom she adored and prayed for daily. She and Finis enjoyed fifty years of marriage, prior to his death in 2005.

Darlene always had a strong work ethic, starting work at an early age at then the Mexia Cotton Mill. She later worked for Safeway until that chain of stores closed in Texas. Darlene finished her working career at Wal-Mart where she was in charge of the fabric department. Founded in a strong Christian faith, Darlene was a true prayer warrior, waking early each morning to pray before work. She maintained relationships with her family and friends through daily phone calls. Spending time with family was a joy to her and she took every opportunity to share her love with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Finis Lee (Tubby) Morton, siblings, Ruth Henderson, Jack Sanders, Martha Marshburn, Marsha Sanders, Betty Guest, and Rhonda Horton.

Darlene is survived by her sons, Mike and wife, J. J. Morton and Spike and wife, Denisha Morton; grandchildren, Kara Hardin and Jarrod, Sarah Lloyd and Trent, Nashlee Barnes and Will, Aubree Bowling and Sean, Cholee Rhodes and Colton, Kolby Morton and Hudson, Clayton Morton and Jacqueline, and Brittany Telford; sister, Sue Hendricks of Mesquite; special niece (who was like a daughter to her), Lisa Ferguson; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Cotton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Maison Logan, Brian Quaca, Kevin Morton, Jason Morton, Larry Haynes, and Jody Kennedy will serve as pallbearers.
