David Thornton Sellers

David Thornton Sellers passed away August 6, 2026 at his home in Pt. Enterprise, TX at the age of 98.

He was born July 17, 1928 to Alvie David Sellers and Eliza May Thornton Sellers. He spent his early childhood in Santa Anna, Fallon, and Pt. Enterprise. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1945. David married Jewel Carter in 1946 and had 2 daughters, Miriam Kay and Davena Gail. In 1948, he joined the Army and in 1950 was deployed to Korea where he was injured and returned home.

David and Jewel divorced in 1955. He remarried in 1956, and in 1957 his third daughter, Stephani Layne was born. In 1966, he met and married Millie Brisisky and resided in New Orleans, Louisiana until he went to work for Brown & Root. During his employment with Brown & Root, they traveled extensively living in Nigeria, Famagusta Cypress, Beirut Lebanon, Singapore, and Cairo Egypt. After returning to the states, they made their home in Jasper, Texas and later, moved to Punta Gorda, Florida where David partnered with his friend, Roy Benton to open The Marine Contracting Company. When David retired, he and Millie moved back to Pt. Enterprise and then to Waco.

David moved back to Pt. Enterprise after Millie’s death in 2017. He loved the small community and its caring and friendly residents. He attended the First Baptist Church of Pt. Enterprise where he was ordained as a Deacon in 2023 and remained a member until his death.

David’s family knew that his favorite hobby was collecting cars, old and new and miniature replicas. He gave many of his miniature vehicles to Stephen Friday who has them displayed at his restaurant, “Joe Fridays”, in Mexia. He loved working outside and especially feeding his catfish every evening. He had 2 faithful companions, his dog, Sediki and his cat, Lucy.

David was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Millie; parents, Alvie &May Sellers; sisters, Ana Beth Stalman and Judy Sellers; brother, Jimmy Sellers; daughters, Kay Sellers Mohundro, Stephani Hardy Cantwell, and infant, Penny Sellers.

He survived by his daughter, Gail Sellers Peyton and Bill Waldrop of Teague; sons-in-law, David Mohundro of Nacogdoches and Tim Cantwell of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is also survived by grandsons, Eric Batts and fiancé, Carmen of Teague, Preston Batts and wife, Julia of Wortham, and Zack Erickson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; granddaughters, Hillary Chandler and husband, Josh of Teague and Amanda Sellers of Teague; 8 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and 3 nieces, 3 nephews, cousins and many friends.

David’s family would like to thank his loving caregivers, Brigette Musil (who we will never stop loving), Robin Jacobs, Eloise Carroll, Vikki King and Angelita Acevedo. Our sincere love and thanks to our dear friend, Dominic Flores for always being there for Dad and all of us whenever we needed him, no matter the hour, as well as his hours of working to keep Dad’s home and yard always perfect. Also, a very special thank you to Dad’s Hospice Nurses, Laurie Williams, Rhonda Machac, Gabby Brewer, and Kennedy Browning, you were not only his nurses, but became his friends. He loved you and so do we. Thank you so much.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Reverend Sam Dennis, Reverend Joey Crenshaw and Reverend Don Morton officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services with, Militiary Honors, will follow in the Pt. Enterprise Cemetery. David McAdams, Preston Batts, Ryan Pipkin, Dominic Flores, Stephen Cooper, and Todd Musil will serve as pallbearers.
