Dixie Marie Smith, of Mexia, passed away April 11, 2026 in Denison, Texas at the age of 81. She was born on October 22, 1944 in Mexia, Texas. She had lived in Mexia her entire life until, due to health reasons, she moved to Denison two years ago. She owned and operated Dixie’s Country Store/Bar in Mexia for many years.
Although as a businessperson, Dixie was friendly and outgoing, she was known to be a relatively quiet person. She was a hard worker both at work and at home. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Whenever Dixie had an opportunity, she enjoyed going to the Casinos and going fishing. She loved her sweets and was also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dessie Price; daughter, Tammy Lynn Starr; and brother, Alvin Ray Melton.
Dixie is survived by her daughters, Wanda Stearns and husband, Clint of Flower Mound, TX, Linda Spears and husband, Kurt of O’Brien, FL, Brenda Simpson and husband, Jerry of Mexia, TX, Gayla Menta and husband, Greg of Denison, TX, and Shauna Morgan and husband, Troy of Oklahoma City, OK; son, James Strong and wife, Jana of Waco, TX; brother, Larry Price and wife, Dawn of Groesbeck, TX; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral home with Brother Kerry McMahon officiating. Interment will follow in the Point Enterprise Cemetery. Dusty Olson, Jeremy Simpson, Andrew Lopez, Brandon Ballard, Jon Jon Hamilton, and Landon Hawkins will serve as pallbearers.
