Donald Gerald Brown passed away on July 21, 2026 at his home in Thornton, Texas at the age of 79. He was born on February 6, 1947 to Donald L. and Lillie Johanna (Reimers) Brown in Houston, Texas. Although he spent many years working as a diesel mechanic, he spent even more years doing what he truly enjoyed, farming. Planting, working his garden/farm, and harvesting his produce was not only rewarding but brought him great pleasure. Gerald planted and harvested many acres of watermelon each year. He also grew and sold numerous other vegetables and was especially well-known for the delicious tomatoes he grew.
Although Gerald kept extremely busy working, he always found time for his family. He was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was always happy to have his family at home whether it was during holidays or anytime.
It goes without saying that he loved the outdoors and that is where he spent much of his life, either farming or occasionally having the opportunity to enjoy fishing or hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lillie Brown.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Janie Winstead Brown; daughters, Karen Wyatt and Quince Hitt, Johanna Thompson, and Bonnie Yalch and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Kristan Anderson, Matt Wyatt, Brooke Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Kassie Bates, Vincent Yalch, and Katherine Yalch; several great grandchildren; and sister, Michele Bright.
