Doris Harp

Doris Jean Harp, 88, passed away August 5, 2014 at her home in Mexia. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2014 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. James Hooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Doris was born October 6, 1925 in Mexia, Texas to Almer L. and Lena B. Dailey Person. She married J. D. Sunday on January 29, 1942; their time together was short, as God called him home on April 21, 1960. She retired from the Mexia State School after 18 years of service. Doris was a longtime active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia. She loved her church and church family. One Sunday, she received special recognition as the church's longest standing member. Doris love for God and her family was evident in her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was always there for her family. If they were involved in school or other activities, she was going to be there supporting them. Doris always attended their sporting events, regardless of weather. She was preceded in death by her parents, Almer and Lena Person; husbands, J. D. Sunday, Tommy Maden and Carl Harp; son, Jerry Don Sunday; grandson, Kelly Don Sunday; granddaughter by marriage, Debra Sunday; brothers, Lavoy and Wilton Person; and sister, Louise Ridge. Doris is survived by her son, Bobby W. Sunday and wife, Laquita; grandchildren, Jermy Sunday, Misty Swift and Donella Sunday; great-grandchildren, Sarah Sunday, Ashton Langley, Andrew Sunday, Brett Swift, Dale Swift, Jaydyn Sunday and Maverick Sunday; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her extended loved ones, step-daughter, Carilyn Hoffman; step-grandchildren, Robert Pickett and Sherri Stagle; and step-great-grandchild, Tyler Stagle. Pallbearers will be Jermy Sunday, Cody Sunday, Mike Sunday, Kenny Swift, Kent Yelverton, Louis Garner and Chester Seelinger. The family would like to express their appreciation to Evelyn Baker, Mirky Bluitt, Carolyn Brown and Providence Hospice of Mexia for the special care given to Doris.
