Dorothy "Doris" Ann Sunday, 65, of Mexia passed away April 24, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Bryan Hallmark officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Doris Ann was born April 21, 1951 to Jewell Spears who later married E.D. "Red" Carter. She grew up in the Tehuacana Valley area and attended school in Tehuacana and Mexia. She was an employee of Brookshire's for 25 years and completed 15 years of service at Kirby's, prior to retirement due to health. On April 19, 1974, Doris Ann married Mike Sunday and they were blessed with a son, Cody. They built a home in Tehuacana Valley where they raised their son and just observed their 42nd wedding anniversary. Doris Ann felt nothing could compare to the joy of becoming a mother until she became a grandmother. Her grandsons became her life, everything revolved around them; she made every attempt to attend all of the events in which they participated. Doris Ann enjoyed preparing meals for her family, at any time, but holiday meals were her speciality. Doris Ann also enjoyed fishing, hunting arrowheads, gardening, her greenhouse and anything to do with yard work. She had great passion toward animals, her dogs, Skeeter, Bell and Fat Girl were treated like family. She was preceded in death by her father, E.D. "Red" Carter; mother-in-law, Louise Sunday Ridge; father-in-law, Kink Ridge; and brother-in-law, Charles "Buddy" Sunday. Doris Ann is survived by her husband, Mike Sunday; son, Cody Sunday and wife, Val of Mexia; grandsons, Tyler, B.J. and Jake Sunday; mother, Jewell Carter of Mexia; sister, Kathy Carter of Mexia; brother, Allen Carter and wife, Kim of Farrar; God sister and very best friend, Debra Farris; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Brenda and Steve George of Corsicana and Judy and J.T. Vickery of Lost Prairie; sister-in-law, Patsy Sunday of Mexia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tyler Sunday, Steve George, James Richardson, Bill Rutherford, Sammy Hughes and Raul Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be B.J. Sunday, Jake Sunday, Billie Ridge, Mike Smith, Mason Carter and Bill Person.
