Douglas Arthur Harrington

Douglas Arthur Harrington, Sr. 80 years of age, passed away on November 27, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family and his beloved dogs, Lucy and Sally.

He was born on September 22, 1945, on the family farm in Boone, Iowa to his parents Earl Harrington (farmer) and Francis Lucille (Holman) Harrington (waitress).

Doug loved fishing hunting and bowling, a great outdoorsman. He was very smart- like an encyclopedia of any useful knowledge. As a child he was a champion of Spelling Bee Champ. He was a “Jack of all Trades” doing window tinting, mechanical, handy man maintenance. A farm kid trained to solve problems and fix them.

He served his country with honor and Distinction as a Sargent E5. His love of country and service was carried throughout his life and taught to his family.

Doug was married to Ruth Nelson Harrington from June 1967 until December 2023. They had four children together: Shannon Inman, Michael Harrington, Christy Monroe, Douglas Harrington, Jr. He remarried on February 24, 2024, to Shirley Simmons.

The Harrington’s are known for their quick wit and fun spirit. He loved to use puns and jokes. He loved music, worshipping His Lord and witnessing with all his heart.

Doug was strict but loving father and husband. He loved all his nieces and nephews – he was the instigator of mischief with them. He cared for his many friends and community. He served on the volunteer fire department for nine years.

He was a very spiritual, kindhearted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a beloved uncle and brother. He loved his church family and church home deeply. He had 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren which were all very loved.

He was preceded by his parents, siblings Kenneth Harrington, Sharon Harrington, Janice Harrington, Francis Earl Harrington, Judith Arlene Harrington, sister-in-law, Dolores Elsberry Harrington, and nephew Brian Scott Harrington.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Mexia, Texas. Interment of ashes will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 3 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery.

We find comfort in knowing that dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons that he taught us; the love of being a Christian/witness he shared as well as the many memories we will cherish of him forever.
