Dr. Tyner

Dr. Roy Dean Tyner, 69, of Wortham Texas passed way at his residence on Thursday August 3, 2017. He was born in Mexia on February 28, 1948 to Gordon and Corene Turner Tyner. He lived the majority of his life in the Mexia area- graduating from Mexia High School in 1966. After high school he joined the army and spent 2 years at Fort Ord in Califorinia. He went on to college at Navarro and Baylor University earning his degree in Dentistry. He opened his dental practice in Mexia in 1976 working there until moving to Pflugerville in 1982- opening a practice there until a heartattack in 1995 left him unable to practice dentistry. Over his 20yr career of being a dentist he helped countless patients feel at ease with their dental work with his gentle touch and kind words, went in at all hours of the night and on weekends and did numerous procedures for people who could not afford to pay him- all for the love of his work and dedication to his patients. He had a passion for golf. He was an avid player who played on courses all over the United States and was able to fulfill a lifelong dream to play at St. Andrews in Scotland, and was an avid collector of memorabilia and enjoyed watching it on TV as often as possible. He was married to Sally Robinson on August 24th 1968- through this union they had three children- Dena Lynn Tyner Looney, Christopher Allen Tyner and Nathanial Scott Tyner. He was preceded in death by his parents- Gordon and Corene Tyner. Survivors include his children- Dena Looney and husband Dion from Wortham, Chris Tyner and wife Amy of Melissa and Scott Tyner and wife Sarah of Whitehouse. He had 7 grandchildren who called him granddaddy or pops- Katie Looney, Noah Tyner, Blake Looney, Leah Tyner, Jonah Tyner, Zoe Tyner and Pace Tyner. Sisters- Charlotte Carter of Wimberley, Terri Culbertson and husband Robert of Austin- several nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends. It was his wishes not to have a funeral or public visitation- as a family we will be taking his ashes to Belize to spread them- this was a place he wanted to visit to but never got the chance. In lieu of flowers - please make any donations/memorials in his name to the Mexia High School Class of 1966, %P. O. Box 119, Teague, TX 75860 for future scholarships.
