Edith Madalene Laningham passed away in Temple, Texas on May 13, 2020 at the age of 94. A family graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Wilson Chapel. There will, also, be a memorial service planned later.
Madalene was born November 12, 1925 in High Point, North Carolina to John Haywood and Viola Burton Gurley. She grew up in High Point and graduated from High Point High School, Class of 1942. Madalene met and married Albert Walker while he was stationed in North Carolina. After his tour of duty, they moved to his home state of Texas where she worked at the Harris County Courthouse for many years.
Madalene was a true example of a Christian, her love for the Lord, her family and other people was exemplified by the way she lived her life. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for them and raising her sons in a Christian home. She also enjoyed attending church, reading and solving word puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Gurley; husbands, Albert Vernon Walker and Doyle Laningham; her beloved son and pastor, Rev. Ronald Albert Walker.
Madalene is survived by her loving son, Vernon Walker and wife, Sosita; grandchildren, David Walker and wife, Kellie, Crystal Walker, Robert Walker, April Walker and husband, Joe Lara; great grandchildren, Britnie and Victoria Walker and Nicholas and Anthony Lara; brother, Ronald Lee Gurley of North Carolina; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Walker of Alabama
