Everett Hurst Sr.
Everett Lloyd Hurst, Sr., of Teague, passed away November 6, 2019 in Waco at the age of 73. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Cotton Gin Cemetery. Blain Morgan, Douglas Hurst, Tyler Hurst, Jesse Foreman, John McClinton, Calvin Gilbert will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
Everett was born July 23, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lloyd Buster and Nadine Adra Hensley Hurst. After graduating from Spring High School, near Houston, he attended Houston Community College. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force, 1965-1969. He has been a resident of the Teague area since the 1980's. Everett worked for many years as a roofing estimator, prior to completing 10 years of service and retiring from the TDCJ Boyd Unit.
There was nothing that could compare to his love for his family. Everett loved his children, but after the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, Pa's heart belonged to them. He especially enjoyed picking at them, which always brought smiles, and carrying them on trips. Everett was never happier than when his family was together on special occasions, cooking out or just anytime. Another of his favorite pastimes was riding motorcycles.
As a young man, Everett looked forward, every year, to spending two or three weeks with his father in Montana and Wyoming. He also enjoyed power lifting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nadine Hurst; first wife, Alice Hurst; brother, Douglas Carr Hurst; daughter, Jeanette Jae Varner Hughes.
Everett is survived by his loving wife, Melva Hurst of Teague; children, Russell "Rusty" Varner of Fairfield, Everett "Bubba" Hurst and wife, Amanda of Teague, Adra Marie Hurst of Teague and Katrina Bounds and husband, Kelly of Mexia; grandchildren, Heather Halford Jones and husband, Jeremy of Groesbeck, Jennifer Halford of Groesbeck, Elisa Halford of Groesbeck, Amber Halford of Groesbeck, Chasitie Hurst of Frisco, Hunter Hurst, Brindin Hurst, Nate Hurst, Emily Hurst, Maddy Hurst, all of Teague, Danielle Smith of Belton, John McClinton and wife, Kallie of Rosenthal and Reagan Bounds of Corsicana; five great grandchildren; siblings, Patricia Jane "Sissy" Foley and husband, Rocky of Donie, Rhonda Kay Johnson of Groesbeck, Curtis Wayne Hurst and wife, Kerrie of Teague, Anna Pruett of Teague and Charlie Renee Hurst of Mart; close friend, Jerry Allen Staggs, Sr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
