Floyd Johnson

Floyd Edwin Johnson, 80, passed away April 20, 2020 at his home in Mexia, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born August 19, 1939 in Thornton, Texas to Floyd Lee and Vida Maiden Johnson.  He grew up in Fair Oaks and graduated from Fair Oaks High School, Class of 1958.  After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served his country for 4 years.  Floyd married his lifelong partner, Patsy Ruth Guest, at the Temple Baptist Church in Mexia in 1963.

Floyd loved serving the Lord, his family and living in the country.  He believed in working hard and providing for his family.  In addition to a 30-year welding career with Flur Daniel in Fairfield, he was a farmer/rancher.  There was nothing he loved more than being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, however, their home was always open to all their relatives and friends.  His grandchildren held a special place in his heart and they, too, thought there was nothing like their “Papaw”.

Floyd never outgrew his love for the country.  He enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, goats, all of his pets and anything that pertained to the outdoors.   He also enjoyed attending church at Temple Baptist, where he had been a member for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Vida Johnson; and brother, Foy Johnson.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy Johnson of Mexia; children, Michelda Brown and Brendon Johnson and wife, Heidi all of Mexia; grandchildren, Kamrye Brown, Abigail Johnson and Mason Johnson; brothers, Charles Johnson and wife, Bonnie of Mexia, Cecil Johnson and wife, Rita of Personville and Donald Johnson and wife, Joanne of Personville; sister, Geneva Scott of Mexia; sister-in-law, Imogene Johnson of Personville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyd’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mexia LTC and Reliant Hospice for the wonderful care given during his illness.

Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 719 S. Red River, Mexia, TX 76667 or Gibbs Memorial Library, P. O. Box 207, Mexia, TX 76667.
