George Churchill

George "Winston" Churchill, 90, passed away peacefully in Richardson. Winston was born February 1, 1925 in Sterling City, TX to Marvin Edsel and Beulah Ballou Churchill. A WWII Veteran, Winston graduated Texas Tech University as a legacy athlete, being one of the only 4 year starters for the varsity basketball team. "Coach" touched the lives of many residents of the community during his 19 years at Hillcrest High School and 38 years instructing swim lessons from his backyard. Winston graciously helped to establish the YMCA in the CasaLinda area of Dallas. Winston married his lifelong bride, Nellie Martin, on May 28, 1950 and they have celebrated life for almost 65 years. His greatest amusement was dedicating time to his sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at games, recitals, achievements, vacation adventures in the mountains and at their lake home. Winston is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his "beauty," Nell Churchill; son Dale Churchill, and wife Debbie; son Gary Churchill, and wife Gina; grandchildren Chris, Devon, Chad, Robby, Jennifer, and Patrick; his 7 great children; and many, many others. The Churchill's will receive family and friends on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 4PM to 6PM at the Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 2PM at Oakes Cemetery near Mexia, Texas. Pastor William Ballou will officiate.
