Gerald Cobb

Gerald Wayne Cobb was born to Wayne Vernon Cobb and Sibyl Lee (Butler) Cobb in San Antonio, TX on September 9, 1943. He went to Waco schools and joined the Air Force at age 17. His mother had to give her permission, by signing for him to join, as he was underage. He served as a medic from 1960 to 1965. He married Georgia Leona Glidewell on December 31, 1961. Their two daughters were born in Tacoma, Washington, while they were in the service. Once back in Texas, they, and their growing family, lived in several different cities from the Red River, to Houston and back to Central Texas. After retirement, Gerald and Georgia began raising their grandson, Tyler. He was and is their pride and joy. After the service, he got on with the MKT (Katy) Railroad with the help of his uncle, Wilburn Cobb. He started at the bottom and worked his way up to the Superintendent of Rules before retirement. He then worked for the Federal Railroad Administration/Department of Transportation, as an agent/inspector and retired in 2004. He had a total of 39 years of service with the railroads. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgia Cobb of Mexia; daughters, Lori Ann Evers and husband Robert of Waco; Sherri Lorraine Cobb and Lee Bain of Waco; sons, Christopher Wayne Cobb and Angie Pendleton of Waco and Randy Lynn Cobb and Maegan Darby of Mexia; grandchildren: Christopher Evers, Nichol Evers Chambers, Tony Bain, Stacey Cobb, Avery Herring, Lee O'Pry, Christan Cobb, Camryn Cobb, Ashley Sims, Tyler Cobb, Brooke Stewart, Aubrey Cobb, and Grayson Cobb; sisters, Stormie Jo McKeown and husband Jimmy of Robinson and Dana Sue Hughes of Farmersville; brothers-in-law, Al Glidewell of Eddy and Mel Glidewell and wife, Pam, of Robinson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Cobb's hobbies included painting (and designing artwork for several places), gardening, fishing, restoring old cars and showing his 1935 Ford 3-window coupe with the Lone Star Muscle Car Club of Waco. He enjoyed attending NHRA Drag Racing with Sherri, Lee and Chris. He loved watching John Wayne movies, Trump, eating the hottest peppers to be found, having coffee at Whataburger with friends, enjoying a Whataburger double-double with lots of jalapenos, gingerbread cookies, and Blue Bell ice cream. He always looked forward to family poker games with his sons-in-law and brothers-in-law and friends. Over the years, he rescued and found homes for hundreds of abandoned cats and kittens. He was known to the family as "Papa Gato". He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Sibyl Cobb; his in-laws Alfred and Flora Glidewell; brother-in-law Charles Hughes; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mr. Cobb passed away September 7, 2017 in Mexia, Texas at the age of 73. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. There will be a visitation with the family at the First Baptist Fellowship Hall following the service.
