Gregory Don O'Pry

October 13, 1977 — March 7, 2024

Gregory Don O'Pry

Gregory Don O’Pry was called to his Heavenly home in the arms of Jesus on March 7, 2024 at the age of 46 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

Gregory was born in Corsicana, Texas to Ricky and Cynthia O’Pry on October 13, 1977.  He graduated from Mexia High School in 1996.

By trade Gregory was a welder, building trailers, fences, and metal ornamentation.  He had a love for old country and gospel music and spent many hours listening to it or singing karaoke.  He also looked forward to listening to the Swap Shop broadcast on the radio every day.  He loved singing as much as he loved the Dallas Cowboys, a love he shared with his Daddy.  It could get rather noisy when they were watching a game together.

From a young age he had a love for animals and country life, particularly raising chickens and he could sit and just watch them peck around for hours.  He also enjoyed gardening and working with cattle and could back a trailer with precision.

Gregory was a member of Temple Baptist Church and had a great love for God.  He was also a family man loving his children dearly.  Gregory loved people and was always ready to lend a helping hand.  He was friendly, outgoing, and would talk to anyone.  He especially loved sitting and visiting with the older generation, listening to their stories and tales.

Gregory is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Benjamin Donald and Faye O’Pry and his maternal grandparents, Weldon and Ava Lee Black.

Gregory leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Ricky and Cynthia O’Pry, his sister and husband, Tara and Travis Cannon of Robinson, his wife, Rachel O’Pry of Groesbeck, his children, Chance Mahan of Groesbeck, Makenzie O’Pry of Waco and Rebekah O’Pry of Groesbeck, as well as his brand-new granddaughter, Adalee Grace Sanchez, whom he adored.  He will also be greatly missed by his nieces and nephew Meagan, Jackson and Kailey Cannon as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and singing buddies.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 3–5 pm at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.  Service will be Monday, March 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Temple Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Vestal officiating.  Burial will be in the Mexia Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Travis Cannon, Jackson Cannon, Chance Mahan, Ryan Hancock, Marcus Berry, and Whit Ogilvie.
