After a long hospitalization and many hurdles overcome, H. R. Washburn passed away in Waco, Texas on December 6, 2006. He was born in Kelso, Washington on November 2, 1927 to William Richard Washburn and Mary O'Ahern Washburn. Rick resided in Coolidge, TX after his retirement with his wife, Kathy, and their cat, Ladybug. He had been in the U. S. Marine Corps in the late l940's, stationed at Oceanside, California and Camp Pendleton. After service in the Marine Corps, he was a Deputy sheriff in Dallas, Texas, and from there he joined the U. S. Border Patrol within the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Service where he served until retirement in Cotulla and Zapata, Texas and in Fresno and Calexico, California. His last five years in the USINS were as criminal investigator and he retired in 1978. He leaves behind wife, Mary K. (Kathy) Washburn of Coolidge, Texas, daughter, Nancy Heistand of Allen, Texas, daughter, Marie Boyd of Dallas, Texas, son, William Richard Washburn of San Diego, California, son, Steven Shawn Washburn of San Diego, ten grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. His parents and his brother, Bill, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
