Hannah was born on August 10, 1947, in Mexia, Texas, to Robert Ellington DeLong and Jeanette Simpson DeLong. After her brother graduated, Hannah and her parents moved to Houston, Texas, and later to Madrid, Spain, where she completed her high school education.
Upon returning to the United States, Hannah earned her Licensed Vocational Nursing degree, which she maintained for many years. This training proved invaluable during her long and dedicated career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She faithfully served as a correctional officer and use-of-force officer in Gatesville, Texas, and Huntsville, Texas, retiring in 2017 after 30 years of dedicated service.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. DeLong (November 25, 2007) and Jeanette S. DeLong (May 31, 2014); her brother, Robert E. DeLong, Jr. (November 18, 1994); and her nephew, Robert E. “Tres” DeLong, III (July 7, 2019).
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Risa and Ralph Benedict of Conroe, Texas, and Connie and Renarldo Parker of Garland, Texas; her granddaughters, Britney Lippke of Conroe, Texas, Brandyn Riojas of Garland, Texas, Scottie Mataska and her husband, Nick Mataska, of Idalou, Texas, Jennyfer Riojas of Lubbock, Texas, and Addison Parker and her wife, Jen Hart, of Fort Worth, Texas; her great-grandsons, Caleb, Graham, and Baker Mataska of Idalou, Texas; her niece, Ariel DeLong and her boyfriend, Brian Matthews, of Kilgore, Texas; her cousin, Dinah DeLong Rogers and her husband, Robert Rogers, of San Antonio, Texas; along with numerous extended family members and many cherished friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kasey Dykes with Elara Caring and the compassionate hospice nurses who cared for Hannah — Flora, Adrianna, and Bri. If we have unintentionally left anyone out, please know how deeply grateful we are for each of you. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Purity Mutua with Vibrant Care Living Home and to Susan, who tended to Hannah’s daily needs with kindness and dedication. Your care, compassion, and support meant more to our family than words can express.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude and love to Douglas and Petra Burrell for the friendship, love, and care shown not only to Hannah, but also to her parents, Bob and Jeanette, and to our entire family. We love you deeply and appreciate you more than words can say.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hannah’s memory to Scottish Rite Hospital, the Conroe Animal Society, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice. Condolences for the family may be left at Blair-Stubbs.com.
Hannah’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
