Harold Fisher

Harold Van Fisher, 82, of Mexia, passed away December 10, 2015 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2015 at Northcrest Church of Christ with Mr. Robin Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Harold was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on January 1, 1933 to Oren Floyd and Florence Howard Fisher. Harold grew up in Mexia and graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1951. While in high school, he played football and was proud to have been a star player and member of the 1949 Blackcats' state playoff team. Harold was the original owner and founder of the Snack Shack in Mexia; he purchased the K & N Root Beer Stand and changed the name. Several years after selling the Snack Shack, he went to work for the Mexia State School as maintenance supervisor, where he later retired. Harold's life story reveals his love for God, family and children. He was a deacon and longtime active member of the Northcrest Church of Christ, especially active in youth activities. He loved his wife and daughters but his love and commitment to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren seemed even greater. He was always in attendance at their ball games, cheering competition, band concerts, Ag activities or whatever the event. Harold was always busy doing something. He was a champion coon hunter and had numerous trophies to prove it. He was a referee for 16 years, ran the clock for Blackcat football games for 20 plus years and loved being out tending to his cows. He was preceded in death by his parents; Floyd and Florence Fisher; brothers, Kenneth Fisher and Oren Floyd Fisher, Jr.; and sister, Geraldine Fisher Hall. He is survived by his wife, Myra Fisher of Mexia; three daughters, Shawna and Jim Sterling, Sherrie and Bobby Bailey all of Mexia and Sheila Buchanan and Todd Knudson of Sugarland; special nephew, Kip Hall; grandchildren, Coby Sterling and wife, Robyn, Shannon Sterling, Matt Sterling and wife, Katherine, Ashton Bailey and Alec Bailey; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Boyd, Brody and John Sterling; brother, Corville Fisher and wife, Joan of Waco; sister, Effie Tilghman of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Story, Charles Sims, Coby Sterling, Matt Sterling, Alec Bailey and Bryce Sterlilng. Honorary pallbearers will be Shannon Sterling, Ashton Bailey, Katherine Sterling, Robyn Sterling, Boyd Sterling, Brody Sterling and John Sterling.
