Hudene Smith

Hudene Smith, 84, of Wortham, entered her heavenly home on June 1, 2024.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2024 in the Wortham Methodist Church  with Reverend Chris Rowe officiating.

Hudene was born January 26, 1940 in Wortham, Texas to Hubert Magness and Betty McNaughten.  Soon after she graduated from high school, she received her Cosmetology License and began her 60-year career as a Beautician.   Hudene loved her job and her customers, many of which became like family.

Hudene was a loving and devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was a longtime active member of the Wortham Methodist Church.  She shared her love for the Lord with her family and many others.  Hudene was known as “Mamaw” to her grandchildren, as well as to many others.  They looked forward to spending the night with Mamaw because she loved to entertain them, or as she called it “party up”, there was never a dull moment.  They also knew if they spent Saturday night with her, on Sunday morning, they would all go to church together.   There was nothing she enjoyed more than cooking and spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.  God and family were always the center of Hudene’s life and that also included her special companions (dogs), Angel and Weebee.

Hudene wasn’t one to be idle, in addition to enjoying church activities and spending time with family, she enjoyed crafting, quilting, embroidering, and crocheting; she made numerous quilts for her family and friends.  She also looked forward to camping with her daughter and son-in-law; she loved the outdoors.

Hudene, along with several other close friends and church members, were often seen together so many times that they became known as “The Golden Girls”.  This chain of friends will now have a missing link, one who will be missed by not only her family but also by many others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Magness and Betty McNaughten and son, Clinton Keith Graham.

Hudene is survived by her daughter, Shelley Paradoski and husband, Don; grandchildren, Larry Graham and wife, Sally, Krista Garrett and husband, Brian, Bradley Paradoski and wife, Katie, Brittany Garay, Clinton Graham and wife, Krystal; great grandchildren, Delanie Graham, Liam Garay, Aiden Garrett, Connor Graham, and Samuel Paradoski; sister, Nancy Pursell; and several nieces and nephews.
