Jay Presley Gatlin, born in Mexia, TX, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

After graduating from Mexia High School, Jay attended Texas A&M where he earned his degree in Agricultural Engineering. While attending Texas A & M, he joined the Corps of Cadets and became a member of The Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. Through 20 years of service in the United States Air Force, he earned the rank of Lt. Colonel and a Masters Degree from USC.

Jay married his high school sweetheart, love of his life, and wife of 59 years on December 23, 1961. Together, he and Glenda started a family where Jay became a role model for his two sons, Jim and John Gatlin. He also enjoyed many years being Papaw to his four grandchildren and was an active member of Point Enterprise Baptist Church.

Jay is survived by sons: Jim and wife, Donna and John and wife, Tanya; four grandchildren, Jordan Gatlin, Morgan and Matthew Sewell, Amber Gatlin and Jace Gatlin; great grandchild, Olivia James Sewell; sister-in-law, Dolly Fife; nephew and niece, Jim Bob Fife and wife, Tami, Shelli Decker and husband, Jimmy and their families.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenda; parents, Cecil “Boots” and Louise Gatlin; and brother-in-law, Bobby Fife.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Reverend Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will be in the Point Enterprise Cemetery.
