Joe Harold Wofford, 89, of Mesquite, passed away September 11, 2015 in Dallas. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. James Kinman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Monday, at Calvary Baptist Church. Joe was born in Hubbard, Texas on July 24, 1926 to Alonzo Farris and Edna Vada Harrison Wofford. He served as a Houston Police Officer, Medallion Store Manager and owned and operated a Pawn Shop for 15 years prior to retirement. On April 1, 1944, he married the love of his life, Nannie B. Cavnar in Houston, Texas and they were blessed with one son, Jerry. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of the Oates Drive Baptist Church. Joe's family was his pride and joy; family gatherings were at the top of his list of things he loved. He also enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting and playing cards and dominoes. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings. Joe is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nannie B. of Mesquite; son, Jerry Wofford of Mesquite; three grandchildren, Lisa Ann Clemmons and husband, Barry of Forney, Kimberly V. Bell and husband, Jerry of Wylie, Marcus A. Wofford and wife, Krystal of Terrell; five great-grandchildren, Brittany Clemmons, Cody Clemmons, Blake Barrow, Jared Bell and Whitney Bell; great-great-grandchildren, Braylon and Sophia; and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Howard Wofford, Kevin Gill, Jason Gill, Don Gill, Brandon Odom and Slade Woodlee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oates Drive Baptist Church, 2805 Oates Dr., Mesquite, TX 75150.
