John Thomas Posey, 73, of Fairfield, Texas, passed away on November 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and service. John was born in Oceanside, California, on July 2, 1951, to Liston Randolph Posey and Johnsie Jo Steele. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and community leader.
John enjoyed baseball, basketball, and tennis in his youth. He attended Forest Glade Elementary, Mexia Junior High, and Mexia High School. After high school, he went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University (LSU), where he played freshman basketball and was a top student in the Animal Science department. A gifted scholar, John achieved a perfect math score when entering LSU, setting the tone for a life of academic and professional excellence.
For 48 years, John served as a State Farm agent, where his dedication to his clients earned him multiple Millionaire Traveler awards and recognition for his achievements. John was a beloved figure in the State Farm community, known for his unwavering work ethic, integrity, and commitment to service.
A man of deep faith, John came to know Christ at an early age at summer camp. Anyone who truly knew him recognized the strength of his faith, particularly his love for reading and memorizing scripture, especially passages related to the Old Testament kings. He was an active member of his church, serving as a deacon and chair of deacons at various times, and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher. John’s faith extended beyond the church walls, as he participated in mission trips and worked with the Epiphany program for incarcerated youth. John’s primary focus in life was sharing his faith in Christ with others.
John's family was his greatest joy. He and his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Sealy Posey, were married for 53 years. Together, they raised their daughter Rebecca Posey Adair, who married Shane Adair, and cherished their two granddaughters, Jacey and Sealy Adair. As a proud husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, John’s love for his family knew no bounds.
John’s passion for life was evident in his many interests. He loved to golf, fish, and travel, particularly to Yellowstone and New England, accompanied by his beloved wife, Charlotte. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his generosity, and he could always be counted on to support others in times of need. A highlight of John’s travels was when he and Charlotte were selected as the Grand Marshals of the Main Street Parade at Walt Disney World in Florida.
John’s legacy is one of faith, love, and service. He leaves behind a lasting impact on his family, his community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, daughter Rebecca, son-in-law Shane, and his granddaughters Jacey and Sealy. He is also survived by his three brothers, Randy, Lisle, and Billy Joe Posey, and numerous extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse in honor of John’s commitment to helping others. A private family burial and service led by Pastor David Mitchell will be held at Fort Parker Memorial Cemetery prior to his services. A celebration of John's life will be held on December 2, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Fairfield, Texas. Visitation will begin at 1:00 and the service will follow at 1:30 led by Dr. Kenneth Pruitt and Pastor George Schroeder. Pallbearers include Shane Adair, Howard Holder, Blake Richardson, Greg Savage, Jack Savage, and Justus Savage. Those honoring John with special words will include Terry Bagley, Jeremy Compretta, Phillip DePrang, Dickie Hill, Dave Pratt, Kenneth Tidrow, and John Wilson.
