Josephine Bryan

Josephine "Jo" Bryan, born January 4, 1936, in Munday, Texas to Marshall Franklin and Era Franklin, went home to be the Lord on June 24, 2018. A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 26. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church of Mexia, on Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. A reception for the family and friends will follow immediately after the service. Jo was a lifelong resident of Limestone County and a graduate of Mexia High School. Jo served Mexia and the surrounding communities for many years as the President of the Centex Citizens Credit Union, previously known as the Mexia State School Credit Union. A life-long banking professional, Jo had a distinguished career growing the credit union from its early years serving only the employees of the campus of the Mexia State School and ultimately, the community at large. She was a committed community volunteer, serving in numerous civic and church organizations. She was among the first female Rotarians in the state of Texas and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Jo and the love of her life, Randall Walton Bryan, were married 64 years, until Randall's passing last year. Jo shared her love of many of her life's passions with others as a participant and teacher in activities such as the Mexia Tennis Association, Barn Stomper Square Dance Club, the line dancers of Mexia, and the Volunteer Council and water aerobics programs at the Mexia State School. She was one of the earliest long-distance runners in Mexia, alongside Randall, as well as an accomplished scuba diver. She and Randall built their dream home on Lake Mexia where they lived for 33 years. They welcomed many family and friends to their home to experience the best catfish in the country and the relaxing atmosphere of lakeside living. She and Randall also travelled extensively, whether visiting their children out of state or enjoying numerous scuba diving trips around the globe. She was preceded in death by Randall, her parents, and five of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughter Vikki Bryan Gibson and husband Albert Austin Gibson; sons Bradley Walton Bryan and wife, Shelby Jean Bryan of Alpine, CA and Gerald Scott Bryan and wife, Tracey Prelli Bryan of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren Bryan Quinton Glass and wife Janis, Melissa Ann Noland and husband B.J., Taylor James Bryan and wife, Kaitlin Elizabeth Bryan, Marshall MacKenzie Bryan and Samuel Donavan Bryan; sisters Patsy Jean Riley and husband Glen, and Martha Ann Perkins and husband Jack; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor Jo's wishes to have donations sent to the Women's Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Mexia.
