Lula Mathews Goswick, of Mexia peacefully passed away Monday morning, April 29, 2019, one day short of her 96th birthday.

Lula was born on April 30, 1923 in Dallas Texas. Lula married the love of her life, O.Y. "Bill" Goswick, Jr., who she adoringly referred to as "my Goswick", June 28, 1942.

Lula inspired many with her positive, vibrant personality and unwavering faith in God. She was a dedicated member of The First United Methodist Church of Mexia, where she served in many ministry efforts, on countless committees, and taught Sunday School.

Lula was a happy soul, she enjoyed playing and hosting bridge, gardening, sewing, participating in various community organizations and volunteer activities.

Lula was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She treasured her family greatly and embraced every moment with them. Lula especially loved her role as "LuLu" to her grand and great grandchildren.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents, Father, Walter P. Mathews, mother, Eva Steger Mathews, husband, Bill Goswick, brothers, Louie Mathews, Preston Mathews, Allen Mathews, sisters, Mellie Merle Scott and Eva Lynn Reid. Lula is survived by son, Richard "Dick" Goswick and wife Anita of Mexia, Texas daughter LuAnn Whitley and husband Ron of Kennedale, Texas, daughter Debbie Goswick of Houston, Texas beloved "Lulu" to grandchildren, Kimberly Meyer and husband Patrick of Groesbeck Richard Y. Goswick, Jr. and wife Candice of Robinson, Jason Whitley and wife Beverly of Dallas, Ashton Whitley and wife Meredith of Arlington, great grandchildren, Mallory Ann Meyer, Parker Young Meyer, Rowdy Goswick, Trevor Morrow, Mae Whitley, June Whitley, Dylan Whitley and Ella Whitley, Friend Billy Locker, and extended family.

To Skilled Care of Mexia's leadership and staff, thank you for making Lula feel so welcome and comfortable in her final months.
To the dedicated staff of Providence Hospice Mexia, your comforting compassion, invaluable care and immeasurable support to our Lula was a true blessing and we are beyond grateful for each and every one of you.

A celebration of the life of Lula Goswick will be held at First United Methodist Church in Mexia, on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 2 :00 pm with Reverend Brad Brittain and Pastor Jennifer Pick officiating, burial in Mexia Cemetery will immediately follow (large tents will be at the Cemetery in case of rain). Ronnie Guthrie, Ronnie Wylie, Trevor Morrow, Doug Allen, Ashton Whitley and Jason Whitley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Reid, Terry Don Shivers, Eric Harwell, Barry Richardson and Matt Reid.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 5-7 pm at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.

Lula's life was a living example of one of her favorite scripture's on Love:
Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails -
1 Corinthians 13: 7-8

Our lives and hearts were molded by Lula's unconditional love from the first breath we took on this earth, just as our lives forever changed the moment she took her last breath on this earth and entered the kingdom of heaven.
