Mary Catherine Milam passed away June 16, 2026 in Mexia, Texas, three days after her 96th birthday.
Mary Catherine Milam was born to Henry Edward and Willie Pearl (Baygent) Liles on June 13, 1930 at LaSalle, Texas. She attended school at LaSalle, Kickapoo, Shiloh, and Mexia High School, graduating in 1947. In 1948, she married J. C. (Johnnie) Milam. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters, Larry Don, Lonnie Dean, Kathy Ann (SIS), and Lois Marie (Dee Dee).
She was secretary to Tony Adams at the TAB Machine Shop, worked in restaurants, and for Mrs. Violet Cartwright. In 1968, she went to work for Mr. Nelson, owner and administrator for Mexia Nursing Home and where she became activities director for 15 years. Later, she worked for Hollis Goodrich at Goodrich Grocery Store for 15 years. After retiring in 1994, she was Secretary for Mexia TASA Singles organization, became active in VFW Ladies Auxiliary, & the Eagles Club. She also joined Young at Heart & Sul Ross Association in Waco.
She loved to dance, listen to music, participate in domino tournaments and take trips to play the nickel slots. Later she learned to play bingo. She made many friends, acquired numerous domino trophies and had a ton of fun doing so.
Catherine touched the hearts of the people she met. She lived life big and did her own thing. Her presence will be missed by family, friends, and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. (Johnnie) Milam; father, Henry Edward Liles; mother, Willie Pearl Baygent Liles; daughter, Kathy Ann Milam McDaniel; brother, Everette Liles of Mexia; sisters, Louise Terry of Irving and Pauline Lenamon of Groesbeck; grandson, Adam Villa; great granddaughter, Autumn Milam of Michigan along with many other loved ones and friends, all of which she now reunited with.
She is survived by her granddaughter Jerri Ann and husband Gerald Woodruff; sons, Larry Milam and wife Shirley and Lonnie Milam and wife Jean; daughter, Lois Milam Pingleton; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews that she adored and other family members, friends, and loved ones. Each one of you was special to her.
Visitation with the family will be 4-6 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Wright, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Jody Drews, Johnny Drews, Clayton McDaniel, Sheldon Clark, Dana Clark, and Joseph Key will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Drews, Dalton Drews, and Gerald Woodruff, Jr.
