Maurice Martin Hinchliffe, 88, left his home at Lake Mexia and entered his home in heaven on June 6, 2018. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. Maurice was born April 11, 1930 in Mexia, Texas to David J. and Mollie Guthrie Hinchliffe. He and his fraternal twin sister, Margaret, were greeted at home by seven brothers and sisters. He attended Shiloh Grammar School and graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1948. After high school, he joined the US Army and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Korean War. Maurice's working career began with walking 20 miles daily, 5 days a week for 32 years as a city mail carrier in Mexia. Until the day he died, you could mention someone's name, who was on his route, and he could tell you their house number and street address. However, his major purpose in life was as a Christian and being an untiring servant for his Lord. This was the job, in which, he happily committed his life. Maurice married the love of his life, Sadie Jewel Carter, on March 31, 1961 and was a devoted husband for 57 years. He was loved, admired and enjoyed by numerous people, especially his grandchildren, who spent long hours "playing" with their Pappy, riding on the tractor, playing in the hay bales and digging in the annual garden; lots of hours "picking and playing". He was a great jokester and prankster! He especially loved making up "Peter Rabbit" tales as bedtime stories for his, "bestest buddy", granddaughter, Amanda. He served the Lord in many ways, from driving the church bus, making life long friends of the many children he bused to and from church services and vacation bible school. He went to many campaign missions for Christ, spreading the word for the church in such countries as Guyana, South America (6 campaigns from 1990-1996), Ghana, South Africa; England, Scotland Barbados, West Indies; Australia; and Balize, Central America, his favorite campaign area by far. He did 15 campaigns there from 1996 to 2008. He also, campaigned throughout the United States, making 19 missions from 1977 to 2006. He and his fellow Christians accomplished a total of 45 campaigns for Christ from 1977 to 2008, 31 years of teaching the word of God around the world. Many of those converts, not only became Christians, but became ministers themselves. He taught World Bible Study and corresponded with people all over the world. Throughout the years, he led an undetermined number of people to be committed Christians. He remained friends with countless numbers of those people, for years, until his death. He was also, a longtime supporter of Foster Children's Home. In addition to that, he had time for prison and jail ministry from Groesbeck to Gatesville and in his spare time, officiated several weddings. In addition to his ministry, other favorite past times included, fishing on the Navasota River and Lake Mexia, playing '42 and visiting his neighbor and longtime friend, James Van Winkle with best pal, grandson, Eric. Maurice will always be remembered as a great father, grandfather and friend to a multitude of people. He was the end of a great and glorious era. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Josef Eric Mohundro; brothers, Bernie, Howard, Jimmy, Norman and Winfred Hinchliffe; sisters, Mary Crow, Margaret Hinchliffe and Addie Frazier; and son-in-law, Finis Peyton. Maurice is survived by his wife, Jewell Hinchliffe of Mexia; daughters, Kay Sellers Mohundro and husband, David of Nacogdoches and Gail Sellers Peyton of Teague; grandchildren, Eric Batts, Preston "Pep" Batts, Hillary Batts Chandler and Amanda Sellers; great grandchildren. Ryan Pipkin, Caitlyn Payne, Alyssa Harris, Tyler Batts, Rhiannon Gresham, Eva Chandler, Khade Gresham and Preston Batts; and great-great grandchildren, Kinsleigh Pipkin and Rustin Harris.
