Norman Gene Samford, formerly of Mexia, passed away August 10, 2025 in Waco, Texas at the age of 81. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Temple Baptist Church with Brother Michael Vestal officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Lost Prairie Cemetery.
Norman was born September 4, 1943 in Texas City, Texas to Alvie C. and Lorene (Taylor) Samford. He worked in the management department of Kraft/K-Mart Corporation for many years, prior to retirement.
Norman married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Hoffard on September 20, 1963 in Mexia, Texas; they were blessed with two sons, Michael and Scotty in addition to four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Norman was a faithful Christian and longtime active member of Temple Baptist Church. His love for God and family was evident; it was of the utmost importance that he and Virginia raise their children in a Christian home. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and having the opportunity to spoil his grands and great grands.
Norman was an outdoorsman. In his earlier years, he enjoyed raising horses, cattle, and working on his farm. He had his own way of building fences and setting poles, regardless of the depth that was normally used to set poles, he was going to make sure they were not going anywhere by setting them several feet deeper. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting occasionally. He wasn’t much on playing games, the only one he would play was chicken foot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Lorene Samford; wife of 61 years, Virginia Samford; and brother, Jerry Samford.
Norman is survived by his sons, Michael G. Samford and wife, Sandy of Waco and Scotty L. Samford and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Ashley, Madison, A’Rhyan, and Brycson Samford; three great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
