Olan W. W. Spivey passed away June 29, 2018 at his home in Buffalo, Texas at the age of 100. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Shane Norcross officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Shawn Williams, Joshua Cole Spivey, Garrett Ellison, Garry Stansell, Ronny Spivey, Jr. and Brady Spivey will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Olan was born in Mexia, Texas on January 2, 1918 to Ervin R. and Katy Leola Hinson Spivey. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army 158 Infantry during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines and Japan where he served as a sniper on the Special Force Unit 12 Man Infantry Squad. Olan was awarded a Sharp Shooter Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and a Citation from President Harry S. Truman for his service in WWII. Olan retired from Exxon Pipeline, in 1978, after 38 years of service as a welder and inspector. While working for Exxon, it was necessary for him to further his education; he attended, both, the University of Houston and University of Texas. Being a hard worker and not ready for retirement, Olan ran a service station (Exxon) and taxi service in Mexia for several years. He also enjoyed working on his cattle ranch and baling hay. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Rubye Spivey; two sons, Ronnie and Bill Spivey; and 16 brothers and sisters. Olan is survived by three of his children, Saundra Jean Land of Buffalo, Patsy Ruth Wood of Longview and Michael Anthony Spivey and wife, Gay of Vail, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
