Ray Layne

Ray Henry "Hank" Layne, 54, of Wortham, passed away March 17, 2014 in Fairfield, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Mexia with Pastor Jimmy Cotton officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard, Texas. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Hank was born February 23, 1960 in Overton, Texas to Raymond Lee Layne and Sandra Louanne Hubert Duckett. He began a career with Brookshire's Food Stores in 1983 and was currently working as Market Manager in their Groesbeck store. A caring and compassionate husband, Hank's love for Karen was apparent to everyone. They shared a love that every couple wishes to have. From the time they first met, they knew they would always be together and Hank spent his almost 30 years with Karen loving her above all else and devoting himself to her and their two boys. Hank's greatest joy was time with his sons spent hunting, fishing, roping with Casey and going to livestock shows with Cade. There was nothing he enjoyed more than sitting and watching his boys rope. Or for that matter, watching them do anything. He loved having the family together, especially spending time with his three-month-old granddaughter Haisley. He was so proud to be Pop. An impressive story teller, Hank never met a stranger. He genuinely cared about people and could put a smile on anyone's face. If Hank was in your presence, you would be sure to be entertained and sure to feel loved. He made everyone feel like family, and to him, you were. He was close with his co-workers and considered them his extended family. Hank was a great friend, father, husband and mentor and will be greatly missed by all who met him. He has given those that knew him a lifetime of memories and love that will be cherished forever. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Duckett and sister, Lisa Layne Fletcher. Ray is survived by his wife, Karen Layne of Wortham; sons, Casey Layne and Melody Bratcher of Wortham and Cade Layne and Taryn Griffin of Mexia; granddaughter, Haisley Brynn Layne; father and step-mother, Raymond and Mary Lou Layne of Tyler; step-father, Henry Duckett of Hubbard; sisters, Maura Layne Plemons and husband, Jimmy of Teague, Karla Layne Biggers of Waco and Dana Duckett Hicks and husband, Toby of Hubbard; brother, Jason Layne and wife Ashley of Tyler; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Story, David Howard, David Flowers, Greg Perkins, Danny Hanford, Gary Taylor, Emory Almy and James Eakins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Plemons, Keith Howard, Dana Howard, Jason Layne and Bob Connell.
