Rex Allen Black, Jr., age 85, passed away on April 28, 2026, in Dallas, Texas with his daughters, Stacia and Candace by his side.
He was born on December 18, 1940, in Marlin, Texas to Rex Allen Black, Sr. and Gladys Black. He grew up in Thornton, Texas where he graduated high school. He went on to attend Sam Houston State University where he graduated with two degrees; one in Business Administration and the other in Industrial Arts. He had a career as a Real Estate Broker at a few different agencies in Plano Texas, for many years before retiring later in life. He worked at Lowes for many years during retirement because of his love for tools and having grown up around them at his father’s hardware store, Black’s Hardware, in Thornton, Texas.
Rex was known for his great sense of humor, funny laugh, his knowledge as a handyman in all areas, and for spending time in his workshop where he loved to hang out and work on many projects. He would pick up broken vacuums and other broken electronics that people would discard, repair them and give them away to those who could use them. He was also a movie buff and loved a few select that he would watch again and again. He especially cherished his daughters.
He is survived by, two daughters, Stacia Duggan and husband, Marlon of Kaufman, Texas and Candace Damiano of McKinney, Texas, four grandchildren, Tanner Duggan and husband, JP of Rowlett, Texas, Trevor Duggan and wife, Lisa of Austin Texas, Savannah Damiano and fiancé, John Wilkowski of Honolulu, Hawaii and Brooklyn Damiano of Princeton, Texas. He leaves behind a sister, Loibeth Pettit, nieces Jennifer Ketchel and husband, Bill, Julie Dieb and husband, Andrew, all from Arlington, Texas and their children, Will, Amy, Matthew and Lauren. He is also survived by Patricia Rottino Black, whom he was married to for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex Allen Black, Sr. and Gladys Black and son-in-law, James Damiano.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026 in the Thornton Cemetery in Thornton, Texas.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
