Rita Kay Thomas

Rita Kay Thomas went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 18, 2025 at the age of 71.

Rita Kay Thomas was born July 6, 1954 to Herbert and Lois McKinnon in Teague, Texas. Rita had two sisters that she loved and has now joined in Heaven. Rita enjoyed her many years of working at the Walmart pharmacy where she greeted the people with a smile and friendly conversations.

Rita met the love of her life James “Jim” Thomas through mutual friends in Mexia. The two were married November 24, 1999. Rita was Jim’s world and his true better half. They built their life on family, church and their faith.

Rita was a faithful member of the Temple Baptist Church in Mexia. Rita loved her church and was known for her deviled eggs and fire crackers. She loved making and passing them out to everyone for Christmas.

Rita was proud of her family and was the center of the Thomas family. She wore the name Meme proudly and made sure her children and grandchildren knew how special they were to her. She loved deeply and loved to laugh. Rita was the queen of Candy Crush and enjoyed playing it every day. Rita had many cherished friends who she loved to text and call daily.

Rita is survived by her husband James “Jim” Thomas; sons Bob Thomas and wife Kim, Steven Thomas and wife Kimberly, Eric Miller and wife Peggy, and Jake Krone; grandchildren Andrea Kolhoff and husband Blake, Stormie Mangham and husband Chance, Susan Pacheco and husband Jesse, Micah Thomas, Adora Thomas, Zechariah Thomas, Aleah Thomas, Austin Thomas, Stormie Miller, Wyatt Miller and Jacob Miller; great granddaughters Kambrye and Blakelyne Kolhoff.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in the Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Vestal officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, Texas.
