Robert “Bob” Grayson Hamilton, 82, of Whitehouse, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by family at Homeplace Hospice.
Bob was born on April 8, 1944, in Mexia, Texas, to Dan Edd Hamilton and Gene Lauck Hamilton. He grew up in Mexia, where he graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1962. He went on to attend Navarro Junior College and later earned his MBA from Sam Houston State University.
Throughout his life, Bob was known as someone steady, dependable, and strong — a rock to those around him and someone his family could always count on. He worked hard to provide for the people he loved and took great pride in his family. His career reflected his discipline and drive, including his work as a football coach where he earned the nickname “Bullet Bob” because he threw the football so hard during practice. He later went on to be a banker for more than 20 years. He was also a proud Eagle Scout, who grew up in the First Baptist Church in Mexia and would later be a member of the Green Acres Baptist Church.
Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, rodeo, and spending time on his boat. He was especially proud of the State Fishing Tournaments he won with both daughters along for the ride! He also loved a good garage sale and never bought something new if he could find it used — a habit that reflected both his practicality and his one-of-a-kind personality. Some of his family’s most cherished memories were made during holidays at his home, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving, family time at Lake Mexia, annual trips to Rockport with family and friends, and the many years spent at a wide variety of different deer leases. He had a way of making his presence known through his humor, his familiar sayings, and the little phrases his family will never forget, including “We’re gonna play it by ear,” “Damnit Bonnie,” and “ohhkayy.”
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Hamilton; his brother, Dale Hamilton; his daughters, Kim Barker and her husband, Frank, and Casey Crawford and her husband, Donald; and his grandchildren, Tyler Barker and his wife, Ashley, Pierce Polomsky, and Madelynn Polomsky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Edd Hamilton and Gene Lauck Hamilton.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 in Mexia Cemetery with Reverend Shane Norcross.
A special thanks to Home-Aid Caregivers for their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Homeplace Hospice of East Texas.
“Grandba”/“GB” will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strength, humor, dependability, and the love and pride he had for his family.
