Roger Glenn Banfield

Roger Glenn Banfield was a Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Roger was born in Fort Worth Texas on April 19, 1945 to George Edward Banfeild & Odela Norris Banfield. Roger passed away on August 26, 2026 in Mexia, Tx. at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by both parents, grandparents, an older brother Edward Banfield and younger sister who died as an infant and also his son Roger Glenn Banfield Jr.

Roger is survived by Rhonda Banfield his loving wife of 40 plus years, a daughter Karen Tag, a son William Eric Banfield, a step daughter Christine Cawthon Ward, a stepson - Darrell Cawthon Jr., a younger brother Darrell Banfield & his -Wife (Robin) along with many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Nieces & Nephews.

Roger lived most of his life in Tarrant County. In his lifetime he worked many different jobs but only had one true career. He worked at General Dynamics, Cox's Store, he put AC's in Foreign Cars and then begin a career at the General Motors Plant in Arlington, TX - eventually retiring after 21 plus years. He worked as a cook's helper at Hill County College in Hillsboro, Tx. He and Rhonda spent many years raising horses and children before moving to south Texas where Roger became a Correction Officer for 3 years at the John B. Connally Unit, in Kennedy, TX. and also in that time period he spent 1 ½ years as a substitute teacher at a local school. Roger spent 6 years serving tourist and locals by giving Horse Drawn Carriage rides through and around Down Town San Antonio, Tx. as he supplied them with information about past historical events.

Things weren't always easy for Roger, but he never gave up-never threw in the towel. Many times people in his life let him down but Roger didn't stay down or let those things control his future. On May 16, 2007, he gave his life fully to the Lord and on January 8, 2008, he displayed his love for his Lord with the concept of unity with other Christians. 

He will be remember for his love of drag Racing, his love of cars, a cat named sue and a sheltie dog names Lady, he loved horses, he loved his friends and he loved good music... But mostly for the Love he found with Rhonda and the joy they shared together with the Lord. Shortly after they were married in 1986, Rhonda chose a song she felt best described Roger. That song is "Old Hippy” by the Bellamy Brothers. Like the song says: 'He's gained the prize” and “He is an Old Hippy and he don't know what to do” but he did adjust -and the last years of his life were much easier even in the tough times than the earlier years were.
