Roy Dwain Baker

Roy Dwain Baker passed away in Waco, Texas on June 22, 2026 at the age of 77. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026 in the Forest Glade Cemetery with Reverend Scott Matthews officiating. 

Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.

Roy was born on December 24, 1948 to Douglas D. and Mary Kate (Higgins) Baker in Mexia, Texas. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1967 and a year later, on June 28, 1968, he entered the US Air Force and proudly served his country for 4 years which including one tour of Duty in Vietnam. After returning to Mexia he worked for the Texas Highway Department for many years, prior to retirement.

Roy’s family was first and foremost in his life. He always enjoyed his time with all his family but after the grandkids came along, the time spent with them was extra special.

He loved working in his yard and took pride in keeping it up. He was a tireless, hard worker; he would usually find something to do to keep busy rather than be idle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Douglas and Mary Kate Baker; and his dog that he loved so much, Sassy.

Roy is survived by his son, Rusty Baker and wife, Candy; daughter, Joni Burch and husband, Wayne; grandchildren, Ryan Baker and wife, Baylie, Cody Baker and wife, Natali, Kaitlyn Baker, Nolan Baker, Jessica, Waylon, and Lucas Burch, Savanah Burns, and Cheyenne Walker ; great grandchildren, Stetson and Blakelee Baker, Rosalee Walker, Jada and William Burch; sister, Carolyn Rieger; brothers, David Baker and James Alton Baker and wife, Sandra; numerous nieces and nephews.
