Roy Milton "Sonny" Jones passed away May 3, 2018 in Mexia at the age of 89. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the First Baptist Church with Mr. Zach Birkner officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Jason Jones, Jon Jones, Josh Jones, Jacob Jones, Mark Burleson, Barry Burleson, Tim Glasco and Mike Gamble will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Sonny was born December 16, 1928 in Groesbeck, Texas to Roy and Oras O'Neal Jones. He grew up in Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School. Sonny married the love of his life, Florence Gamble, on July 15, 1950 in Mexia, Texas; they were blessed with two children, Kathy and Kenny. He worked as a pipeline welder for Service Pipeline for 15 years, prior to retiring after completing 15 years as an insurance salesman for Reliable Life Insurance. Sonny was always upbeat, had a great sense of humor, loved everyone and treated people the way he wanted to be treated. His love for the Lord, family, friends and everyone else was exemplified by the way he lived his life. He enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by his family, especially, his grandchildren and great grandchildren that he cherished so much. Sonny loved to play golf, was an extremely talented welder, enjoyed using his skills to create things and often repairing things for others. While being a member of the Mexia Country Club, he served as President. He was an active member of the Shiloh Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Jones; brother, Norman Jones; and sisters, Louise Ragsdale and Teresa Glasco. Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Florence Jones of Mexia; son, Kenny Jones and wife, Marsha of Tyler; four grandsons, Jason Jones of Tyler, Jon Jones and wife, Paige of Tyler, Josh Jones and wife, Lauren of Atlanta, GA and Jacob Jones and wife, Monica of Mansfield; great grandchildren, Belle, Mason, Maggye, Andrew and Evan Jones; sister, Joanne Burleson of Waxahachie; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
