IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rufus Wayne
Brooks
May 5, 1953 – March 9, 2026
Rufus Wayne Brooks (Brown), 72, passed away March 9, 2026 in Mexia surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was born May 5, 1953, in Mexia, Tx. to Irma Jean Brooks and Lloyd Brown. He grew up in Mexia and graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1971.
Wayne began working at the City of Mexia, where he held the same position for forty plus years and was respectfully considered a valued employee. For many years Wayne single-handedly cared for the Mexia Cemetery to the satisfaction of everyone. Wayne retired from the city and began enjoying what he loved, running a lucrative lawn mower service. Wayne was a staple in the city of Mexia and those who dropped off lawn mowers received more than service; they received his wisdom.
Wayne was the epitome of strength, and no one can say that anything was able to keep him down. He was a hard worker and a provider for his entire family. He loved without limits and had a heart of gold. He is known as the father of our family. Wayne lived his life being respectful of others and always treating everyone just as he wanted to be treated.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Irma Jean Brooks, his father, Lloyd Brown, his siblings Brenda Scruggs, Billy Brooks, Jerry Brooks and Nelson Brooks.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memory siblings: Willie Brooks, Leslie Brooks (Vickie) Roger Brooks (Alma) and Stephanie Brooks Perkins (Reggie), a very special companion in life, Leola Bailey. Special cousins: Hattie Jewel Mosely, Lilian Sanders, Carolyn Brooks, Diane Brooks Jackson, Lee Brooks and Marilyn Brooks Simmons, Latonya Brooks Molina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A special thank you is extended to Providence Hospice, Leah Outlaw and Carolyn Wilson for their care of Wayne.
