Mrs. Ruth Fitzgerald, 87, of Mexia passed away Friday evening in Mexia. Mrs. Fitzgerald was born January 17, 1919 in Paris, Texas to Norman Stanley and Annie Lou Young Whitsell. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour, Texas and had worked as a telephone operator for 28 years. Mrs. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Denzil Fitzgerald in 1985, and her son, Col. James S. Kay in 2005. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Neil Padgett of Mexia. Grandchildren, Karen Padgett, Trey and Sylvana Padgett and Leslie Padgett all of Mexia, Capt. James Kay and wife Samantha of Virginia, Maj. John Kay and wife Jennifer of Georgia and Anne Kia Kay of Hope Hull, Alabama. She is further survived by 11 great grandchildren, a sister, Robbie Naylor of Amarillo and Brother, Dan Whitsell of San Angelo. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Fitzgerald will be 2 pm Monday at the Masonic cemetery in Seymour, Texas. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
