Shelia Madene Sims, 56, longtime Mexia educator, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 in Mesquite, TX. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Shelia was born in Dallas, Texas on December 11, 1958 to William Harvey Medders, Jr. and Margret Anne Tipton Johnson. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee, her Master's from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas and later, received her Principal's Certification. Shelia was a school teacher for Mexia ISD for 33 years and Principal of the Mexia Jr. High School for one year, prior to retiring due to health reasons. On August 1, 1981, she married her loving husband of 34 years, Charles Sims; they were blessed with two children, Samantha and Cameron. Cameron dubbed her "Big Mama" because of her "big personality". She enjoyed cooking and was a very good cook, red velvet cake was her specialty. Shelia's life revolved around her love for God, her family, her church and her dedication to teaching. Shelia not only taught children, she was a teacher's teacher; she mentored numerous teachers who looked up to her with the upmost love and respect. Teaching was her passion and she could not have been more dedicated to loving and educating her students to the best of her ability. Her students loved her as much as she did them. Shelia was a very active member of the Northcrest Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school, was very active in the Ladies Group and in the cradle role for infants. While Sheila will be missed by her loving family and numerous friends here on earth, they take great comfort in knowing Heaven has gained a "Special Angel".
