Sherry Yvonne Leago

Sherry Yvonne Leago, 58, passed away on August 19, 2026, in Mexia, Texas, leaving behind a family and countless loved ones who will forever feel the absence of her beautiful heart.A memorial service celebrating Sherry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home, with Reverend Michael Hensley officiating.

Sherry was a woman whose love and compassion could be felt almost immediately by anyone fortunate enough to know her. She possessed a remarkable empathy for others and a genuinely selfless heart. Sherry endured hardships throughout her life that many people never knew about because, despite everything she had faced, she continued to smile, love deeply, care for others, and embrace life.

Caring for people came naturally to Sherry, and being a nurse was more than simply her profession—it was something she truly loved. The compassion she showed her patients was the same compassion she carried into every part of her life. She cherished being a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a nurse, and a friend, and she treasured the relationships she built along the way.

Sherry loved life, and she wasn’t finished living it. She had plans still to make, conversations still to have, places still to go, and memories still to create with the people she loved. She found happiness in both the important things and life’s simple pleasures—her family, her plants, a Dr Pepper, a good conversation, and time spent with the people closest to her. Above all, Sherry loved the Lord and carried her faith with her throughout her life.

One of the great loves of Sherry’s life was her husband, Thomas “Joe” Leago. Sherry and Joe shared ten wonderful years together and were married on July 12, 2023. Their years together were filled with love and companionship, and Sherry cherished being Joe’s wife.

Sherry also shared an extraordinary friendship with her best friend and “soul sister,” Donna. Donna was Sherry’s anchor, confidante, and a deeply important part of her life. Their friendship was one of endless love, loyalty, and understanding—a bond that went far beyond friendship and became family.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Reed Owens and Frances Ann (Griffin) Owens.

She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas “Joe” Leago; her children, Josh Owens, Hank Foley, Davie Foley, Aaron Tarkington, and Reese Tarkington; her stepchildren, Kristie Leago and husband Eric Sterling, and Thomas Leago III and wife Jennifer Leago; and her mother-in-law, Sandra Carter.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Camden Owens, BrayLynn Johnson, Tayber Hughes, Summer Barker, Stormy Barker, Briley Foley, Addyson Chambers, Hailey Jo Sterling, Tyler Leago, and Ayden Leago.

Sherry is also survived by her brothers, Micheal Owens and wife Laura Owens, Alton Owens and wife Shae Owens, and Richard Owens; as well as her nieces and nephews, Kayla Owens, Micheal Owens, Amber Owens, Kristen Owens, Cortney and Ervin Williams, Graceyn and Reed Owens, Kali Owens, and Dru Owens; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched.

Fifty-eight years was nowhere near enough time for a woman who loved life as much as Sherry did. Her family is left with plans that will now go unfinished, conversations they wish could have lasted a little longer, and an emptiness that cannot simply be filled. But they are also left with the tremendous gift of having been loved by her.

Sherry’s life will not be measured by how suddenly it ended, but by the love she gave while she was here. It lives on in her husband, her children and grandchildren, her brothers, her soul sister, and every person who was fortunate enough to call her family or friend.

There will never be another Sherry, and the place she holds in the hearts of those who loved her can never be replaced. She will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and forever remembered
