Shirley Elaine Padgett, 66, of Mexia, passed away January 1, 2014 in Temple, Texas. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Visitation with the family will be 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Shirley was born January 13, 1947 in Clarendon, Texas to Eldon and Ruth Whitsell Kay. She married H. O. "Niel" Padgett, Jr. on October 14, 1970 in Durant, OK. She received her Bachelor's Degree from U. T. Tyler. Shirley retired from the Mexia State Supported Living Center after 32 years of service. Shirley loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren; they were her pride and joy. She was always supportive of her children and grandchildren in sports or any activities in which they participated. She also enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Colonel James S. Kay. Shirley is survived by her husband of 43 years, Niel Padgett of Mexia; children, Karen Smith and husband, Lloyd of Mexia, H. O. "Trey" Padgett, III and wife Sylvana of Mexia and Leslie Carroll and husband, Chester of Lubbock; grandchildren, Adam Padgett, Stephen Young, James "Will" Padgett, Ashley Hughes, Meagan Young, Jordan Padgett and wife, Kristen, Cheyenne Smith, McKenzie Young, Miranda and Macy Sizemore and Jessica Carroll; great-grandchildren, Serenity Dyess Padgett and Eries Hughes; mother-in-law, Alma Padgett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
