Vance Ray Rose passed away on January 24, 2026 in Mexia, Texas at the age of 79. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor David West officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Bryce Samuels, Connor Smith, Trenton Herod, Bryan Wood, Jeff Turner, and Larry Masters serving as pallbearers.
Vance was born on September 9, 1946 in Monahans, Texas to Jesse Ray and Mildred Louise (Hall) Rose. He lived in Mexia most of his life and graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1966. After high school, he joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country for four years during the Vietnam War. Vance spent his career driving trucks, he completed 20 years of service with Hobbs Bonded Fiber and after many more years of service with Walmart, retired in 2014.
Vance was very outgoing, always friendly, willing to help anyone, and never met a stranger. Everyone who knew him, naturally, knew he loved football; he was forever very supportive and a diehard fan of the Mexia Blackcats and the Texas Longhorns. He, along with Bob Wright, Larry Russell, the late Stephen Trantham, and others traveled endless miles together following the Blackcats. He also enjoyed watching football and basketball on TV and he was a Trump supporter. Vance was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Although Vance had many outside pleasures, there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with Lana and their family. The highlight of his life was being surrounded by the grandkids and great grandkids, spoiling them was his favorite pastime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mildred Rose.
Vance is survived by is wife, Lana Lee Rose; daughter, Subrenna Samuels Turner and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Whitney Herod and husband, Trenton, Brianna Smith and husband, Connor, and Bryce Samuels; great grandchildren, Clayson Smith, Burklee Smith, and Lynlee Herod; sister-in-law Roxanna Hancock and husband, Mark; nephew, Bryan Wood; niece, Kari Anne Griffin; cousins, Randy Jackson and Lamar Addy and wife, Paulette; aunt, Jerri Jackson; close friends, Larry Russell, Bob & Peggy Wright, Larry Masters; and many other football buddies.
