Vickie L. Gilliam

Vickie L. Gilliam passed away June 4, 2024 in Waco, Texas at the age of 70.  Visitation with the family will be on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Union Cemetery Chapel, in Freestone County.  Funeral services will be at the same location beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Ivy officiating.  Interment will follow with Draven Hullum, Val Mathis, Scott Holmes, Grant Holmes, Daryl Moore and Mike Glick serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Drew Ferguson, Preston Patrick, and Bill Rutherford.

Vickie was born December 8, 1953 in Corpus Christi, Texas to James V. and Lucille (Tupa) Prestidge.   She was a Training Coordinator for Intervoice-Brite, the telecommunication company that was known as the pioneer of voice recognition.

Vickie will be remembered for always being plain spoken, no one ever had to wonder what she thought!   She was also a hard worker, there wasn’t any task that she wouldn’t try and, in most cases, was usually successful in getting it done.   Vickie loved being outdoors; she enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers, planting a vegetable garden, and enjoyed music.

After she and Phillip bought a motor coach, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling coast to coast, never making plans for any destination or time frame.  She got so much pleasure in going to the Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming that she made several return visits over the years.  In addition to her other travels, she also found time to enjoy a few cruises.

Although Vickie enjoyed many things in life, the most important role she had was that of a homemaker. She was dedicated to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; taking care of her family was what she loved most in life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucille Prestidge; brothers, Ronnie Prestidge and Mike Morman; and sisters, Pamela McCloud and Dana Prestidge Palmer.

Vickie is survived by her husband, Phillip Gilliam; children, Damian Hullum and wife, Sonja, Gina Commander and husband, Walter, and Courtney Gilliam; grandchildren, Drew Ferguson, Draven Hullum, Preston Patrick, and Carly Coker; sisters, Tamara and Mary; and several nieces and nephews.
