Virginia Simmons passed away Friday, January 27, 2006. Having never disclosed her true age, we will only say she lived life to the fullest over an 8 decade span. Born in Boston to Henry and Margaret Grogan, she met her husband Roy Simmons in Caracas Venezuela while visiting her sister Mae. The couple ultimately settled in Mexia, Texas, where Roy practiced law with his father Ed Roy. Intelligent and energetic, Virginia was active in politics and a leader in the Women's Friday Club and Garden Club and a dedicated worker for St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her other interests ranged from belly dancing to Red Cross volunteer. She was most proud of her four lawyer children: Patrick, Rebecca, Roy and Joe who all graduated from Baylor School of Law. Following the death of Roy, Virginia moved to San Antonio in 2001 and immediately became active in Our Lady of Grace parish serving as a team member on two ACTS retreats. She traveled widely and celebrated life. She is survived by her loving children Patrick and Wendy Simmons of Mexia, Richard Clemons and Justice Rebecca Simmons of San Antonio, Joseph and Leigh Simmons of Austin, and Roy and Mary Lisa Simmons of Pittsburgh and grandchildren Adam, Brooke, Rachael, Sarah, Patrick, Grace, Margaret, Wyatt and Virginia. Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday January 31st at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mexia. A memorial mass and celebration will be held on Friday, February 3rd at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church in San Antonio, Texas. Pallbearers are Joe Cannon, Scott Mack, Edmund Schuster, Dick Flatt, Robert Steele and Dan Stich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mexia Academic Sweater Fund or the San Antonio Our Lady of Grace Acts Scholarship Fund.
