WALTER WILLIAM HEWITT

Walter William Hewitt, also known as “Spock”, of Groesbeck, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Baylor Scott & White-Hillcrest in Waco, at the age of 76.

Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Faulkenberry Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Ben Huebner officiating.  Pallbearers will be Colt Smith, Shay Smith, Marcus Ray Hanna, Daniel Dabney, Lonnie Berkhemer, and Randy Randolph.

Walter was born May 14, 1946 to William Benjamin “Buster” and Ruth Margaret (Ransom) Hewitt at Cox’s Hospital in Groesbeck, Texas.  He attended Groesbeck schools and graduated from Groesbeck High School, Class of 1964.  He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.

While attending high school, he worked with his parents at Hewitt’s Grocery Store, which was located near the railroad tracks in Groesbeck.  Walter, later, began working at the Limestone Theater, running films; he enjoyed this job so much that he become a “movie buff”.  In the late 60’s, he worked for ABCO furniture factory in Mexia.  Then he began his career at the Mexia State School, as he also began his family.  He decided he needed more to do, so he added an additional job, running films for the Corsicana Drive-In – in the mid 70’s.

After Walter reached retirement age, he retired from the Mexia State School to run his own business, Fantasy Fashions, that he had already opened.  After retirement, he, also, had more time to do other things that he loved, camping and attending renaissance festivals.

Walter was a loving son, father, and grandfather; there was nothing more important to him than family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Buster” and Ruth Hewitt; brother, David Hewitt.

Walter is survived by his son, Walter William Hewitt, II and wife, Melissa of Thornton; granddaughter, Kayla Hewitt and boyfriend, Daniel Dabney of Thornton; brother, Randy Hewitt of Groesbeck; and special friend, Lonnie Berkhemer of Harker Heights.
