Wilbert Stocker, 87, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026. He was born on March 30, 1938, in Lancaster County, Kentucky, and grew up in Lexington, Kentucky.
Wilbert proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he learned the trade of electrician—skills that would shape the rest of his life. After his service, he went on to own and operate his own electrical company, a career he took great pride in. His strong work ethic, independence, and dedication to his craft defined him throughout his life, and these are qualities he passed on to his children.
Wilbert was known for his humor and his strong sense of identity as an Air Force veteran. His children often joked that he believed wearing his Air Force veterans cap was his “get out of jail free card,” and he wasn’t afraid to push the limits of what he could get away with while wearing it.
He had a deep love for animals, especially horses and dogs, and owned many over the years. In his later years, his dog Petey became his constant companion, and the two spent countless hours together as “best buds.” Wilbert also enjoyed fishing and going junk shopping with his beloved wife, Teddy.
Wilbert is survived by his wife, Theadora “Teddy” Stocker; his children, Debra Foster (Dennis), Butch Stocker, Susan Billiot (Clayton), and Janet Broussard (Floyd); and his stepchildren, Jay Focke (Jill) and Hope Hammons (Billy). He is also survived by four grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and his sister, Martha Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Stocker and Nannie Elizabeth Volrich; his brothers, Jim and Bill Stocker; and his sisters, Jeannie Stocker, Mary Byrant, and Hazel Ponchot.
Wilbert will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of animals, and the pride he carried as both a veteran and business owner. He lived life on his own terms, leaving behind a legacy of stories and memories cherished by all who knew him.
The family sincerely thanks Skilled Care of Mexia and AccentCare Hospice, with special appreciation to Melissa Watson and Larry Holden, Chaplain, for the compassionate care provided to our father.
